DASNY Queens College – Fitzgerald Gym

PROJECT
DASNY Queens College
Fitzgerald Gym

DESCRIPTION
Queens College, located in Queens, New York, was founded in 1937 and is recognized as a prestigious higher education institution on a national scale. The existing Fitzgerald Gymnasium building was constructed soon after the founding of the institution, and has served as an athletic and educational building for a variety of programs and departments. The College plans to undergo a renovation project to upgrade the facility to include state-of-the-art audiovisual systems technology. Convergent Technologies was asked by Sasaki Associates to provide Audiovisual Systems Design Services as well as Acoustics, Noise & Vibration Control Analysis Services for the Fitzgerald Gymnasium Renovation project. The design effort included recommendations for audio reinforcement systems, classroom instruction systems, distributed CATV displays, as well as limited audio and video conferencing capabilities in various areas throughout the building. CTDG’s acoustical analysis focused on the adaptation of existing structural and components, and integration of new architectural components, to achieve the required level of sound isolation and interior acoustical performance to support the programmed use of each athletic, instructional, or administrative space within the building. The project began in late 2014 and is expected to be completed in 2016.
