Maricopa County Community College District: Gateway CC – Integrated Education Center

The new Integrated Education Building is a component of the college’s plan to expand GateWay’s presence in the community as a premier education and training facility utilizing the most advanced technology systems available within budget constraints. The building houses additional classrooms, life and physical science labs, a new library, and a new one-stop student services area. The scope of work for this project included design services for audiovisual systems with associated supporting infrastructure, telecommunications cabling infrastructure, acoustics, noise & vibration control and security systems design. Laboratory spaces include anatomy/physiology, chemistry/physics, microbiology, biology and lab prep/cadaver storage areas. The library not only meets the need for circulation, reference and collection materials, but computer workspaces and collaborative student spaces. This building will also feature a multipurpose room for cinema viewing classes with full range audio and videoconferencing ability. The Security Management System (SMS) provides the key central component for managing physical security and the bridge between physical and logical security. The system allows a variety of integral functions including the ability to regulate access and egress; provide identification credentials; monitor, track and interface alarms, and view, record and store digital surveillance video linked to SMS events. Audiovisual and security control systems can be remotely accessed from offsite through the GateWay network and all equipment is IP (internet protocol) controlled. This Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) project is pursuing LEED Silver and is scheduled for completion in late 2012.
