Johns Hopkins University – School of Public Health – Video Conference Room Acoustics, Noise & Vibration Control
Convergent Technologies provided all room acoustics, noise and vibration control consulting for this Teleconference Facility. Responsibilities included the review of building criteria as they applied to acoustics, noise and vibration for three videoconference spaces. Convergent Technologies developed acoustical criteria for HVAC equipment noise levels, sound isolation, room acoustical finishes, and floor slab vibration properties throughout the facility. Space plan included two live audio recording rooms, as well as one video production space. The production facility was equipped with a low-output audio-reinforcement system to support live and DJ playback events, including real-time streaming of video via the internet. Design challenges included the specification of vibration control criteria and adequate room finishes to properly treat the open areas that are involved with the aforementioned audio system, as well as exterior noise control from overhead flying helicopters and roadway sirens. Design schedule included involvement in construction documents preparation and bidding document review. Project has been successfully complete since December 2003.
