Scottsdale Healthcare, Osborn Campus – Endoscopy Education Expansion

Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn is a full-service 321-bed, medical/surgical hospital that includes the East Valley’s only Level I Trauma Center. Convergent Technologies provided acoustics, noise and vibration control design services related to the Helicopter Landing Pad located on the roof of this facility. Project challenges included high noise levels from multiple helicopter landings, particularly at low frequencies. Design solutions required extensive architectural and structural noise control elements, including specialized structural vibration isolators, wall treatments, ceiling treatments, and specialized window elements. Data interpretations were made to supplied noise levels to create usable low frequency weighted data. Noise loss calculations were performed as related to slab loss calculations, air loss calculations, wall/window partition loss calculations, and in room absorption loss. The calculated in-room noise levels were then compared against standard sleep disturbance criteria to judge the impact of the helicopter noise in the Critical Care Facility. The design schedule included involvement in design development and construction document preparation. Responsibilities included review of building criteria as they applied to acoustics, noise and vibration control, and application of sleep disturbance criteria within the critical care unit. The project has been successfully complete since November 2004.
