College of William & Mary – Integrated Science Center

Convergent Technologies provided the College of William & Mary – Integrated Science Center with all acoustics, noise and vibration control consulting services for the modernization of Millington and Rodgers Hall located in Colonial Williamsburg. Devoted primarily to scientific activity, the building is designed to foster collaborative creativity among scientists, researchers and students. Scope of work included involvement in design development, preparation of construction documents, and bidding document review. Key spaces with acoustical concerns include a Vivarium, research/teaching laboratories, computer teaching laboratories, seminar rooms, student commons, conference rooms, and common areas throughout the facility. Project challenges included isolating the noise transmission from the Vivarium located on the ground level of Millington Hall to the adjacent spaces on upper floors of the building. Project responsibilities also include the development of acoustical criteria for room adjacencies, HVAC equipment noise levels, sound isolation, and room acoustical and floor slab vibration properties for all acoustically sensitive spaces throughout the facility. The project was a twelve-month design effort and has been successfully complete since 2008.
