Medicorp Health System — Stafford Hospital

Ellerbe Becket

Stafford, Virginia

Project Size:
 225,000 GSF

Construction Cost:

The new Stafford campus of the MediCorp Health System is home to a 100-bed acute care hospital including a medical/surgical unit, intensive care unit, labor and delivery unit, full- service emergency department, imaging center, and medical office space. The project included a $2,000,000 dollar design to budget for technology systems to include telecommunications (voice/data) cabling systems, cable antenna (CATV) television system, closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, telemedicine (portable/fixed) systems, and audiovisual presentation systems. Specifications included a universal patching approach for voice and data station cabling to accommodate Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), an IP addressable CCTV system monitored over the hospital’s Local Area Network (LAN), and interface wiring for CATV control in the patient rooms through the nurse’s call system. The types of spaces that received audiovisual presentation systems include: an auditorium and associated control room, conference rooms, and boardrooms with telemedicine capabilities. Various common areas throughout the facility also received video displays, background music, and voice paging systems. Additional responsibilities included the development of acoustical criteria for isolation of the building structure due to the structure-borne vibration, HVAC equipment noise control, space adjacencies and sound isolation, as well as interior room acoustics for various spaces throughout the facility. The project was successfully completed in 2009.

UPDATE: In 2010, Medicorp Health System changed it’s name to Mary Washington Healthcare.
