The College of New Jersey – Decker Hall Renovation

Convergent Technologies provided telecommunications cabling (voice, data, RF video), access control and video surveillance systems with associated infrastructure design services as they pertain to the Decker Hall renovation. The Decker Hall renovation project is part of TCNJ’s Housing Facilities Master Plan which calls for a total addition of 262 beds to the campus housing facilities. The renovated six-story (6) Decker Hall will accommodate additional space for the College’s Sophomore Year Experience (SYE) Program and house approximately 360 students in double occupancy rooms. Complete specifications and project management for all telecommunications cabling for voice, data and RF video signals into the building from existing distribution points are included in the scope of design work. Specified systems include access control systems with proximity card readers and intelligent data gathering. Project highlights include providing new CATV distribution from the basement entrance point to each floor and integrating access control and video surveillance hardware with the existing security system. Project challenges include relocating telecommunications equipment rooms, updating outlets to be two gang and surface mounted, and updating access control infrastructure to accommodate the building. This project is currently in the Construction Administration phase with expected occupancy in 2010.
