Wakefield School – Science & Technology Building Addition

The scope of this project included design services for audiovisual presentation systems in eight (8) laboratory/ classroom spaces and two (2) meeting room spaces as well as telecommunications cabling systems (data, voice, RF video) throughout the building. Telecommunications cable systems design included both inter-building cable and cables with associated infrastructure connecting the addition to existing telecommunications utilities. Classrooms were outfitted with a LCD data/video projector mounted from the ceiling. Separate program and speech audio reinforcement systems were also included in the design. Audiovisual systems control was achieved from the room’s touch screen controller, located at the instructor’s station. Wakefield has a fully functioning videoconferencing system used in several application areas throughout the school. The Polycom VSX 8000 system provides integrated video, voice, data, and web capabilities allowing collaboration worldwide. The system provides the faculty with opportunities for virtual field trips, virtual class collaboration projects, streaming video, and podcast. Specified rooms contain custom AV floor I/O panels for system access and all the facilities are linked by fiber optic and Cat 5 data cabling. This project has been successfully completed since July 2006.
