Bowie State University – Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics, & Nursing

DESCRIPTION
Recognizing the importance of the co-location of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing into one new center, Bowie State University developed a program to address the increasing interdependence of these programs for shared spaces, collaboration and interaction among disciplines. Spaces in the facility include: open computer labs to serve all three departments, research laboratories, nursing skills simulation labs, faculty offices, departmental administrative areas, 130-seat lecture hall, informal learning/study spaces, meeting/conferencing/tutoring spaces, student/faculty lounge, and building support facilities. Convergent Technologies Design Group
(CTDG-NY) scope for this project included; audiovisual systems design and supporting infrastructure for all nursing simulation spaces and acoustics, noise & vibration control for the entire facility. Nursing simulation spaces include: four patient simulation rooms; debrief rooms and eight exam rooms. Recording of audio from telephone conversations was important to the department in order to monitor student’s communication with pharmacists and other health care professional interactions in a professional setting. This project is in design and planned for completion in the fall semester of 2016.
