Project Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) Energy Systems Integration Facility stands as a beacon for advancing complex systems research and development. Designed to revolutionize the nation’s energy infrastructure, this state-of-the-art facility integrates cutting-edge simulation, data analysis, engineering, and evaluation techniques. CTDG plays a crucial role, providing comprehensive design services for audiovisual systems and supporting infrastructure.

At the heart of this transformation is a high-performance data center boasting a 200+ teraflop supercomputer and an Insight Collaboration Room with a three-dimensional immersion cave. The facility includes a visualization room with a 24-32 mega-pixel video wall and a Control Room featuring a 2×6 video-wall rear projection cube. These spaces simulate large utility control systems and connect to nine experimental bays, showcasing real-time and accelerated data sets. Opened in 2013, the facility incorporates secure videoconferencing rooms, collaborative conference rooms, and a public tour system with timed and automated displays. This groundbreaking project positions the NREL at the forefront of renewable energy innovation and research.
