CONSTRUCTION COST:
$70 MILLION

GROSS SQUARE FOOTAGE:

The scope of this project included the design and construction of a new state courthouse in Rockville, Maryland. The facility provides new space for the District Court, Parole and Probation/Intake Unit, Office of the Public Defender, and the Maryland Department of General Services. The six floor building includes space plans for typical courtrooms, traffic courtroom, hearing rooms, a multipurpose room and judges chambers. Convergent Technologies provided acoustics analysis, testing and measurement services for the courthouse in order to determine the noise impact of a power generator at the established property line. Scope of work included the review of existing design documents for the required louvered vent and exterior partition details and the review of the octave band sound power levels generated by the power generator within the facility. CTDG also determined the necessary sound isolation requirements for the building to comply with the applicable Montgomery County Noise ordinances at the property line. An acoustics narrative report was developed outlining findings, results and recommendations.

Fort Gordon, Georgia is home to the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Signal Center, which trains more military personnel than any other training center of the U.S. Army. The main component of the post is the Advanced Individual Training for Signal Corps military occupational specialties. With the installation of the new Barracks, Convergent Technologies provided acoustical design services for interior sound isolation as well as noise and vibration control. This included analysis of the radiated, structure-born, and inlet/outlet octave-band sound power levels for HVAC equipment in addition to recommendations for Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings of partition types and floor slab/ceiling construction. Analysis and calculation were delivered in the form of a narrative report, which also contained details for selected partition types based on the recommended acoustical design criteria. Acoustical recommendations for doors and acoustical seals and details for caulking, closure at pipe and duct penetrations and partition intersections were also provided. The sound isolation analysis also included the study of the sleeping quarters, with recommendations on the construction of partitions and ductwork layout between various spaces. Convergent’s services commenced with the Construction Documents phase of the project. This project was completed in early 2011.
