Project Highlight: National Institutes of Health – Building 10 E-Wing Renovation

CTDG would like to take a moment to highlight the incredible work being done on the National Institutes of Health Building 10 E-Wing Renovation project under the leadership of Perkins + Will. This is a complex $322 million dollar project aiming to renovate 250,000 square feet of lab and administrative spaces. The newly improved space will be home to more than 1,500 research and administrative staff from 11 institutes and other organizations. These include the Clinical Center’s department of transfusion medicine, NIAID’s Laboratory of Clinical Infectious Diseases, NIDDK’s Genetics of Development and Diseases, Kidney Diseases and Molecular Medicine branches and NIMH’s Human Brain Collection Core and the section of neuroadaptation and protein metabolism will also be housed in the refurbished space, along with staff from NHLBI, NHGRI and NINDS. The project includes new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, new supply/exhaust fans and mechanical equipment rooms, new vertical building and laboratory service distribution risers, new fire protection and addressable fire alarm systems, and fully automated building controls and specialized laboratory equipment controls and monitoring systems. The goal is to achieve a Silver certification following the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system.

We are providing Audiovisual Systems with Infrastructure, Access Control/Video Surveillance Systems with Infrastructure, and Acoustics, Noise & Vibration Control design services. We are always happy to consult on projects with Perkins + Will.

Location:
Mather, California

Project Size:
20,000 GSF

Project Budget:
$4 MILLION

The California Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) teamed with the Sacramento Metro Fire Department (SMFD) to remodel the 2nd floor of the SMFD’s headquarters. The new exercise simulation center will simulate disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and wildfires. The simulation works in real time for various teams to respond providing better training to employees. The building is unique because it is shared by multiple government agencies to train for various emergency situations. The facility features multiple video walls and sub-dividable spaces that allow for both large and small group simulation experiences. Convergent Technologies Design Group provided complete audiovisual design services for this project. The project will be complete in 2014.

[col3]The Large Vehicle Inspection Station (LVIS) provides administrative and indoor inspection capabilities for the inspection of commercial vehicles entering the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). The LVIS, located outside the security perimeter of the Academy, is designated as the commercial vehicle point of access and is readily accessible to the commercial traffic via Interstate 25 and North Academy Boulevard. The building allows for the inspection of commercial vehicles and administrative support functions. The new facility allows traffic to move more freely by segregating the commercial traffic from Privately Owned Vehicles and provides security personnel a dedicated and ideal environment to process commercial vehicles in an efficient and thorough manner. The project required RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) credentials which we provided. We also participated as a Federal Small Business Self Certified Enterprise. Scope for this project included telecommunications design services and supporting infrastructure. This project was completed in 2013.

Update: This project has been nominated for the National U.S. Air Force Design Award!
