Wakefield School – Science & Technology Building Addition

[col3]The scope of this project included design services for audiovisual presentation systems in eight (8) laboratory/ classroom spaces and two (2) meeting room spaces as well as telecommunications cabling systems (data, voice, RF video) throughout the building. Telecommunications cable systems design included both inter-building cable and cables with associated infrastructure connecting the addition to existing telecommunications utilities. Classrooms were outfitted with a LCD data/video projector mounted from the ceiling. Separate program and speech audio reinforcement systems were also included in the design. Audiovisual systems control was achieved from the room’s touch screen controller, located at the instructor’s station. Wakefield has a fully functioning videoconferencing system used in several application areas throughout the school. The Polycom VSX 8000 system provides integrated video, voice, data, and web capabilities allowing collaboration worldwide. The system provides the faculty with opportunities for virtual field trips, virtual class collaboration projects, streaming video, and podcast. Specified rooms contain custom AV floor I/O panels for system access and all the facilities are linked by fiber optic and Cat 5 data cabling. This project has been successfully completed since July 2006.[/col3]

West Shore School District – Washington Heights Elementary School Building

[col3]This scope of this project included assessment of a noise disturbance emanating from a nearby chiller plant, with disruptive tonal components. Research of local jurisdiction codes governing acceptable outside sound levels were researched for West Shore County to provide input for calculations determining possible barrier construction. Acoustical measurements were performed at the school to assess property line noise and close-in equipment noise emissions. Calculations were made to determine noise levels transmitted to the exterior due to use of the chiller unit. These noise levels were compared to ambient noise level and property line noise criteria stipulated by the local building authority. Recommendations to solve the noise disturbance were in the form of barrier construction details, sound absorption treatment on the building walls, and chiller silencing techniques such as duct attenuators and compressor caps. The project has been successful complete since March 2002.[/col3]

Friends School of Baltimore – Dining Hall Renovations

[col3]The Friends School of Baltimore, founded on Quaker values and ideals, serves approximately 960 co-ed students grades Pre-K through 12. The scope of work for this project includes the complete renovation of the school’s dining hall. Convergent Technologies provided complete design services for audiovisual systems with associated supporting infrastructure to include large format presentation displays and a new sound system. System features include speakers placed within columns throughout the space. Existing skylights in the facility presented challenges with regards to contrast ratios and image quality. Additionally, budgetary constraints limited the ability to select equipment designed to address these difficulties. The unique shaping of the ceiling design also presented a challenge for the attachment of drop down audiovisual screens. Convergent designed a solution that addressed the unique challenges presented in this space. This project has been completed since September 2009.[/col3]

Frederick County Public Schools – West Frederick Middle School

[col3]The scope of work for the Frederick County Public Schools, West Frederick Middle School Renovation/Addition, consists of noise and vibration control design consulting through the review of the 50% construction documents package along with the octave band sound power levels for one chiller tower to be installed adjacent to an existing air cooled chiller. The facility’s seasonal shutdown of the existing cooling system posed a problem for onsite acoustical measurements to be gathered, but a direction for design was developed through the acquired data of the specified series of existing air cooled chiller, the noise ordinance information from the City of Frederick and the variety of noise control options available. Project responsibilities also include an outlined period for deliverables, with RFI responses and recommendations for suitable substitutions to specified solutions, as well as Fall construction administration services.[/col3]
