Project Spotlight: New Intergenerational Severn Community Center Grand Opening

A ribbon cutting on May 15, 2023 presented by Governor Moore, County Executive Steuart Pittman, Arundel Community Development Services (ACDS) Inc,. Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel celebrated the opening of the new Intergenerational Severn Center.

The Community Center features a state-of-the-art Boys & Girls Club, which includes a full size gymnasium and Teen Club; a regional Senior Activity Center that will host educational programs, recreational activities, and classes in art, history, crafts, computer use, dance, and physical fitness. The facility also includes a flexible community space called “The Gathering Place” in honor of Glenda “Miss G” Gathers – the community advocate credited for the center’s initial idea. The project is the culmination of more than three decades of community advocacy.

Convergent provided telecommunications cabling systems, audiovisual system electronics and access control/video surveillance systems design services. Spaces that benefit from the audiovisual systems design include Activity Spaces, Classrooms, Lobbies, Game Room, Teen Center, Meeting Rooms, Computer/Tech Room and the Gymnasium. The building includes integrated displays for digital signage applications. Public Display locations include the main entrance, lounges, and hallways. Each display can be remotely controllable via a building-wide management system. This system allows for the remote implementation of content to each individual display or group of displays. Staff are able to advertise for events, display the day’s schedule or distribute other content.

It was a privilege to work on this project with Murphy & Dittenhafer Architects.

Telecommunications Infrastructure and Audiovisual Infrastructure for Latino Gallery & Exhibit at the Smithsonian Provided by CTDG

Properly functioning telecommunications infrastructure and audiovisual infrastructure is vital to creating an overall pleasurable and successful exhibit experience. Summer is approaching, and it’s a great time to visit exhibits and museums across the nation. One of our favorites is the Latino Gallery at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

Dedicated to celebrating the U.S. Latino experience. This 4,500-square-foot rotating exhibition is the first of its kind featuring viewer-generated multimedia first-person narratives introducing important ideas, moments, and people that shine a light on the many ways Latinos and Latinas shaped the nation.

For this project, Convergent Technologies Design Group, Inc. was a proud provider of telecommunications cabling systems for the entire exhibit and audiovisual infrastructure that supported the exhibit designer’s strategy for the rotating video walls. Take a sneak peek at the advancements of this project by clicking the image below and scrolling down to the header “Under Construction” to see a time-lapse of this project. The exhibit is scheduled to be open Summer of 2022.

Verrado High School – Agua Fria Union High School District

[slideshow_deploy id=’3568′]

LOCATION:
Buckeye, Arizona

ARCHITECT:
Orcutt/Winslow

The scope of this project for Verrado High School was to analyze the interior acoustics of a 520 seat Auditorium located at the high school in the Agua Fria Union High School District of Buckeye, Arizona. The analysis performed in this project included an evaluation of room shaping and its impact on reflected sound levels, as well as, calculations of reverberation time in areas where speech communication was important. The existing design of the auditorium was found to result in high levels of noise transmission between itself and an adjacent food court. In addition to this, the existing design was found to provide excessive low frequency reverberation, resulting in a ‘boomy’ sound which negatively affects room acoustics. High noise reduction coefficient ceiling tile was recommended to help reduce noise transmission from adjacent rooms, and low frequency reverberation was controlled using strategically place absorptive panels along the perimeter of the auditorium. In addition to this, recommendations for doors, windows, acoustical seals and details for caulking around pipe and duct penetrations were provided. This project was completed in April 2006.
