The Arizona Biomedical Collaborative Building #1 (ABC) was a joint venture project between the University of Arizona and Arizona State University (ASU). The scope of this project featured educational technology systems including audiovisual presentation and recording, speech reinforcement, custom smart presenter’s lecterns, distance learning, touchpanel remote control systems, and digital annotation. Fixed audiovisual systems were specified for a small conference room, medium conference room, and large mediated conference room. Custom portable carts consisting of a plasma display, digital annotation overlay, and ancillary sources were specified to be used throughout the building in order to promote collaboration utilizing educational technology. Project opportunities to incorporate distance-learning capabilities in the large mediated conference room were successful in remotely connecting this new research building with the rest of the ASU & University of Arizona campuses. Additional responsibilities included acoustics, noise & vibration control for spaces receiving audiovisual systems including sound isolation, interior room acoustics, and mechanical systems noise control. This project has been complete since July 2007.
