Aberdeen Proving Grounds – USAMRICD

[slideshow_deploy id=’3576′]

Architect:
Flad & Associates

Location:
Aberdeen, Maryland

Construction Cost:
$230 MILLION

Gross Square Footage:
300,000 square feet

LEED: Silver

The scope for the US Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) included the design of audiovisual systems and its associated infrastructure. Project responsibilities included heat load figures, AC power requirements and special grounding and bonding measures for audiovisual systems, as well as signal flows for audiovisual equipment used in public areas and auditoriums, as well as simulation, conference and video conference rooms. Features within these areas include video projection, remote controlled audiovisual systems, program and speech audio reinforcement, videoconferencing systems, as well as baseband and broadband distribution systems. Special design constraints pertaining to end user visibility and lines of sight, such as ceiling heights, furniture layouts, and ceiling shape were considered in the design of the audiovisual systems. The scope of this project commenced at the schematic design phase and construction was scheduled to be complete in December 2010.

Fort Knox WT Complex – Admin/Ops Center and SFAC – Acoustical Consulting Serivices

[col3]Fort Knox’s units include Army Cadet Command, Army Human Resources Command, and Army Recruiting Command. In addition to these units, Fort Knox is home to the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division, the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, the 84th Training Command, Ireland Army Community Hospital, and other Partners in Excellence, making Fort Knox the most multi-functional military base in the United States Army. Convergent Technologies’ scope of work for the Fort Knox WT Complex included acoustical consulting services for the Admin/Ops Center and SFAC. Project responsibilities included review of structural and architectural design documentation, as well as applicable building standards; analysis of room partition design; recommendations for improving sound isolation to adjacent spaces; and preparation of narrative report outlining findings, results and recommendations. Exterior walls and roof/floor/ceiling assemblies, doors, windows and interior partitions are designed to reduce external noise sources such as airfields. This project began in 2012 and is scheduled for completion in 2013.[/col3]

United States Army – Advanced Individual Training Barracks

[slideshow_deploy id=’3594′]

Architects:

  • Michael Baker Jr., Inc. – Alexandria, Virginia
  • W.G. Yates & Sons Construction – Fort Gordon, Georgia

Location:
Fort Gordon, Georgia

Project Budget:
$14,400,000

Gross Square Footage:
91,000 square feet

Fort Gordon, Georgia is home to the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Signal Center, which trains more military personnel than any other training center of the U.S. Army. The main component of the post is the Advanced Individual Training for Signal Corps military occupational specialties. With the installation of the new Barracks, Convergent Technologies provided acoustical design services for interior sound isolation as well as noise and vibration control. This included analysis of the radiated, structure-born, and inlet/outlet octave-band sound power levels for HVAC equipment in addition to recommendations for Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings of partition types and floor slab/ceiling construction. Analysis and calculation were delivered in the form of a narrative report, which also contained details for selected partition types based on the recommended acoustical design criteria. Acoustical recommendations for doors and acoustical seals and details for caulking, closure at pipe and duct penetrations and partition intersections were also provided. The sound isolation analysis also included the study of the sleeping quarters, with recommendations on the construction of partitions and ductwork layout between various spaces. Convergent’s services commenced with the Construction Documents phase of the project. This project was completed in early 2011.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory – Energy Systems Integration Facility

[slideshow_deploy id=’3154′]

Architect:SmithGroup

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Construction Cost: $135 Million

Project Size: 175,000 gsf

Designed to facilitate complex systems research and development that integrates the most advanced simulation, data analysis, engineering and evaluation techniques, The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Energy Systems Integration Facility plans to transform the nation’s energy infrastructure. This state of the art facility will support not only research and engineering, but the testing and analysis of components and systems to enable economic, reliable integration of renewable electricity generation, fuel production, storage and building efficiency technologies. Convergent Technologies is providing complete design services for audiovisual systems with associated supporting infrastructure. This project features a high performance data center (HPDC) consisting of a 2.1teraflop supercomputer, supporting by an Insight Collaboration Room with a three-dimensional (3D) partial immersion cave. The HPDC also includes a visualization room with a videowall in the 24-32 mega pixel range. CERBS offers a rear projection cube 2×6 videowall Control Room and will simulate the typical large utility control systems, as well as integrate the display of real-time and faster than real-time data sets from any of the nine (9) connected experimental bays. Additional spaces to receive technology systems include secure videoconference rooms, collaborative conference rooms, and a common area tour system for the public with displays throughout the building. Displays on tour routes in the common areas will be timed and automated with a control system. This project is planned for completion in 2013.
