Virginia Commonwealth University – Health & Life Sciences Engineering Building

The Health & Life Sciences Engineering facility provides opportunities for collaborative research among engineering, life sciences and medical sciences faculty, graduate and post-doctorate students. The two-story building includes faculty, post-doctorate and graduate student offices, conference rooms, shared equipment rooms, laboratories and high-performance computing spaces. Convergent Technologies provided room acoustics, interior sound isolation, HVAC noise control and structure/building vibration design and consulting services for this new research intensive building. Project responsibilities included conducting an interior sound isolation and room acoustics analysis and providing recommendations for space adjacencies and partition types.  An acoustical analysis of the HVAC systems was also conducted. Recommendations were made to address mechanical system noise transmission concerns including discharge/inlet noise transmission, diffuser and grille noise, duct breakout noise transmission and architectural sound control. Also included in this scope of work was the performance and analysis of exterior vibration measurements. Vibration levels were measured at the future building site and recommendations were made for vibration control guidelines.  This project has been complete since 2008.
