McDonogh School – St. Johns Student Center & Math and Science Building

The McDonogh School is a co-educational kindergarten through twelfth grade day school with approximately 1,300 students enrolled. The new Edward St. John Student Center and Naylor Building are being constructed as part of the McDonogh Forever Campaign which will fund priority construction projects included in the campus master plan and raise money for the annual fund and endowment. Convergent Technologies is providing audiovisual systems with associated supporting infrastructure design services for both buildings. The St. John Student Center will provide meeting and activity space for the entire K-12 student population. The building features a 500-seat sub-dividable formal dining hall (the Deborah A. Paterakis Hall), visual arts studios and galleries, dance studios, an infirmary, meeting rooms, and the Brass Eagle Cafe. A 175-seat lecture hall with a stage will also be included in the student center to provide a venue for smaller scale performances, lectures and meetings. Spaces throughout the student center will be flexible to accommodate meetings, lectures, grade-level gatherings and special events. The Naylor Building is programmed to provide space for the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) departments for the Upper School, grades 9 – 12. This building will replace old science labs and classrooms currently located in Allan Building and provide a physical connection between the math and science programs. Spaces throughout the building include custom classrooms for math, science labs customized for the various disciplines (physics, chemistry and biology) and a greenhouse on the third floor. CTDG is tasked with designing audiovisual systems for the two buildings that are transparent, flexible and cost-efficient. Infrastructure for audiovisual systems is being designed to support future systems functionality. This project is currently in the Construction Documents phase with completion scheduled for 2012.
