Norfolk State University – Robinson Technology Building Renovation

The scope of this project included complete design services for educational technology systems to include: telecommunications cabling systems (voice/data/RF video) with associated supporting infrastructure and audiovisual & multimedia, audiovisual presentation, speech reinforcement, and custom instructor’s stations as it pertains to the phase II renovation of the William Robinson Technology Building. Space plans include: distance learning center, auditorium, computer labs, collaborative study spaces, faculty offices, conference rooms, and the Dean’s Suite. The building also houses specialized classrooms/labs, including Micro Computer Labs, an AutoCad Lab and a Cisco Networking Lab. Specified systems include hallway plasma displays, audiovisual presentation systems, classroom with distance learning capabilities, and telecommunications cabling distribution rooms. Scope of design work includes the basis for design, design development, specifications and project management for all telecommunications cabling, and audiovisual & multimedia systems infrastructure to be integrated into the building. Project responsibilities include working within Virginia’s BCOM Standards and Design Guidelines. High performance design strategies were incorporated into the renovation project using standards, principals and practices promoted by the U.S. Green Building Council. This was a multi-phase renovation project and has been successfully complete since fall 2006.
