Millersville University – Visual & Performing Arts Center

Scope of work for the new Visual and Performing Arts Center at Millersville University includes the renovation of 29,041 square feet and a 59,452 square foot expansion of the existing Lyte Auditorium/Alumni Hall. Lyte Auditorium is the main campus venue for recitals, student produced musicals, and the annual Cultural Affairs Committee Series. Convergent Technologies provided complete design services for telecommunications cabling systems, public address/paging system, and access control/video surveillance security systems with associated supporting infrastructure as they relate to this project. The newly renovated building will house the Music Department, hold approximately 650-seats and feature a concert hall, recital/rehearsal hall, piano lab, multipurpose dance hall, classrooms, music library, recording studio, department offices, an art gallery, scene shop and theatre. This project is part of the university’s master plan and is expected to improve and enhance the visual and performing arts programs on campus. Project responsibilities include design and specifications for all telecommunications cabling systems, video/CATV system and a reverse 911 mass notification paging system. This project is currently in the Construction Administration phase and is scheduled to be complete by the fall of 2011.

[col3]The New Mental Health SARRTP (Substance abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program) Relocation project will complete design of Phase II for the Mental Health Renovations. The new, 19,600gsf building will accommodate 22 beds. The MH Seismic Replacement Project involves a new replacement building for Building 2. Convergent Technologies provided design expertise for  audiovisual systems design and supporting infrastructure, acoustics, noise & vibration control, telecommunications systems design and supporting infrastructure and security systems design. Additionally, Convergent Technologies worked to integrate nurse call and code blue intercom systems and developed criteria for publc address and paging along with inter/intra departmental intercoms. This project is currently in the design phase with construction anticipated to begin in 2012.[/col3]

Morrisville State College – Student Activity Center Renovations

[col3]The Morrisville State College Student Activity Center building was built in 1971 to house a pool, theater, gymnasium and food services. The scope of this project was to provide telecommunications cabling infrastructure for voice/data/RF video outlets, and access control/video surveillance infrastructure design services for the SUNY at Morrisville State College (MSC) Student Activity Center (SAC) Renovations to be located in Morrisville, New York. CTDG was also asked to include optional design services for audiovisual systems with associated supporting infrastructure, room acoustics, interior sound isolation, and HVAC noise control. Design services were aimed at to renovating selected portions of the Student Activity Center (SAC) including: gymnasiums, fitness areas, locker spaces, lobby, and upgrades to building infrastructure systems. The project also included the infilling of an existing swimming pool to create a new fitness area. The renovation followed previous improvements to the theater and a campus eatery. Due to the ongoing occupation of the building, the construction is phased, and scheduled for completion Summer 2012.[/col3]

Darwin D Martin House Complex – Phase V Restoration & Visitor’s Center Addition

[col3]The scope of this project includes the restoration and reconstruction of the historic Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin D. Martin House Complex. This National Historic Landmark is being restored and rebuilt to return to the original design created by Frank Lloyd Wright. Upon completion of the restoration efforts the Martin House Complex will open to the public as a museum. Technology systems planned for the project include: telecommunications cabling (voice, data, RF Video), video surveillance and intrusion detection, Local Area Network (LAN) and Wi-Fi electronics, audiovisual presentation, public address and program/speech audio reinforcement along with the associated supporting infrastructure. The types of spaces to receive technology systems include: Ballroom/ Billiard Room, Veranda, Living Room, Library, Conservatory, Carriage Room, Loft, various bedrooms and common areas. Project Challenges include verifying existing campus standards for security and telecommunications cabling systems and identifying wireless access points throughout the campus. Specifications include details outlining procedures and methods of connecting to existing telecommunications networks. Project scope includes complete programming narrative system overview descriptions and detailed per space cost estimating for all technology systems. The restorations were completed in Fall of 2011.[/col3]

Albany Public Library – Arbor Hill & New Scotland Branch Libraries

[col3]The Albany Public Library Branch Improvement project involves the renovation of three libraries and the addition of five new branch libraries including the Arbor Hill and New Scotland Branch Libraries. The scope of this project includes complete design services for telecommunications cabling systems for all voice, data and RF outlets, audiovisual systems and access control/video surveillance systems as it relates to the new branch libraries in the Arbor Hill/West Hill and New Scotland neighborhoods. The Library’s Board of Trustee’s Design Review Committee is working closely with the design team and project manager, the Dormitory Authority of New York, to ensure a timely and cost-efficient completion. Throughout the design process feedback and suggestions from the communities have influenced the designs of the libraries. The Arbor Hill/West Hill and New Scotland neighborhoods have attended Board meetings which gave them the opportunity to respond to the library designs. Additional Responsibilities include preparing cost estimates for all specified telecommunications cabling, audiovisual and security systems, reviewing existing standards for telecommunications cabling, audiovisual and security systems and establishing new standards for access control/video surveillance systems. The project is two year design and construction process was completed in 2010.[/col3]

McLaren Healthcare – Proton Therapy Center

[col3]Convergent Technologies is providing complete design services for emergency paging audio, intercom, video surveillance (CCTV), access control/intrusion detection, and treatment room status area displays for the new McLaren Healthcare Proton Therapy Center. Once complete, the McLaren Proton Therapy Center will be the first proton beam therapy center in Michigan, and one of nine in the entire country. It is projected to treat patients throughout Michigan, as well as Canada and surrounding states. The Center is said to be representative of the future of proton therapy with its apprehensible advances in design and technology. The types of spaces receiving technology systems design include: patient treatment areas, control rooms, treatment imaging room, reception, examining rooms, procedure rooms, nurses’ workrooms, and executive offices. This project is currently in the Construction Administration Phase.[/col3]

The scope of this project includes a $2.2 Million design to budget for technology systems. Convergent Technologies provided complete design services for telecommunications cabling systems with associated supporting infrastructure, audiovisual systems with associated supporting infrastructure, video surveillance and access control security systems and acoustics, noise & vibration control as it relates to the Renovation and Addition to Pharmacy Hall at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The seven story building includes: 200-seat Lecture Halls, 80-seat Lecture Hall, Distance Learning Classrooms, 40-seat and 76-seat Classrooms, Practice Labs, Patient Interaction Rooms, Dispensing Laboratories, Institutional Pharmacy with sterile preparations laboratory and Seminar Rooms. Educational technology systems include: clinical training management systems, healthcare observation & recording, digital audio/video capture with streaming capabilities to the Local Area Network (LAN), distance learning, audiovisual presentation, program/speech audio reinforcement and custom instructor’s stations. Project highlights include the design of common area video displays, and a presentation video display wall for the atrium space. Additional project responsibilities include recommendations for room shaping and finishes for all acoustically sensitive spaces within the buildings. The Pharmacy Hall Addition has been completed since August 2010.[/col3]

[col3]The scope of this project included a $3 Million design to budget for educational technology systems to include audiovisual systems with associated supporting infrastructure,telecommunications cabling systems with associated supporting infrastructure, security systems and acoustics, noise & vibration control. The Perdue School of Business is considered the largest college level center for business education and economic development in the region, offering over seven bachelor degree programs and an MBA program. Since its endowment the Perdue School of Business has not had a home of its own until now. The new 2-winged three story building features a simulation stock trading room, four business labs, twenty-three (23) classrooms, a 200-seat auditorium, break-out rooms, open lounges, a cafe and the Perdue Museum. Business labs include the Financial Research Center, Advanced Information Technology, Market Research/Strategy and the Enterprise Systems. Classroom space includes a virtual learning center, four executive level classrooms for graduate students and community involvement, three collaborative rooms and one general computer lab. The building also houses a business student services center and Business Outreach Services to include BEACON, a Small Business Development Center office, conference rooms, seminar rooms and consulting rooms. Specified systems include audiovisual and multimedia presentation systems, program/speech audio reinforcement, digital audio/video recording, and videoconferencing. Project responsibilities included cost estimating and complete project management through Construction Administration for all audiovisual systems, telecommunications cabling systems and access control systems throughout the building. Additional responsibilities included recommendations for room shaping and finishes for all acoustically sensitive spaces. This building has been successfully completed since the summer of 2011 for occupancy in the fall semester.[/col3]

Prince George’s County – African American Museum & Cultural Center

[col3]Convergent Technologies is providing complete design services for telecommunications cabling, audiovisual and security systems with associated supporting infrastructure as well as acoustics, noise and vibration control for the new home for Prince George’s County African American Museum and Cultural Center (PGAAMCC). The Museum will be the center of the newly created Gateway Arts District, a $70 Million initiative along Route 1 (Rhode Island Avenue), in North Brentwood, Maryland, the first municipality in Prince George’s County incorporated by African American citizens. The Museum, currently located on the first floor of the Gateway Arts Center, strives to cultivate, preserve, present, document and interpret the cultural and artistic contributions and the local and regional history and culture of African Americans in Prince George’s County. The 76,000 square foot facility will include 34,000 square feet of permanent and temporary exhibit space, a 200-seat theater/auditorium, community meeting rooms, two 50-seat classrooms with the ability to function as one or two separate spaces, a museum store, small reference library, cafe, and a studio/multi-purpose room. Specified systems include access control/CCTV systems, audiovisual presentation systems for the theater, classrooms, and studio/multi-purpose room, and wireless access points throughout the building including the outdoor rooftop/garden area. The project is being designed to pursue LEED Silver Certification. The new museum is expected to be complete in 2013.[/col3]

Franklin Square Hospital – New Patient Tower

[col3]The scope of this project includes complete design services for telecommunications (voice/data) cabling, nurse call/code blue, audio paging, audiovisual presentation, access control, video surveillance, equipment tracking, and wireless infrastructure systems for the new five story Franklin Square Hospital patient tower. The new 291-room tower will house an expanded six zone emergency department, large intensive care unit, and four new medical surgical units. Project responsibilities included the development of a technology systems program manual outlining new and existing technology systems based on site surveys, inventories, and programming workshops with representatives from Franklin Square Hospital. Representatives from the hospital were divided into three focus groups  clinical engineering, facilities department, and information systems/technology – in order to streamline the process and gather the right players early in the design process. Project opportunities included more robust wireless networks enabling doctors and nurses increased mobility and productivity over legacy communications systems. This project has been successfully complete since November 2010.[/col3]
