Virginia Commonwealth University – Medical Sciences Building II

Convergent Technologies provided all acoustics, noise and vibration control consulting services for the New Medical Sciences Building at Virginia Commonwealth University’s urban campus in Richmond, Virginia. Responsibilities included the review of building criteria as they applied to acoustics, noise and vibration control. Scope of work included the development of acoustical criteria for HVAC equipment noise levels, sound isolation, room reverberation time, acoustical finishes, and floor slab vibration properties throughout the eight-story facility. Additional responsibilities included an acoustical analysis that addressed the radiated noise issues associated with Cooling Towers 1 and 2. Convergent Technologies also performed an analysis of exterior property line noise emissions.  Space plans for the building included classrooms, offices, laboratories and a vivarium. Key spaces with acoustical concerns included the vivarium, first floor meeting/conference and seminar rooms, laboratories, and offices throughout the facility. Deliverables associated with this project included an acoustical report outlining design criteria, calculations and recommendations. This project has been successfully complete since December 2006.
